Job Summary

Assist on on-call field projects across the southwest, Midwest, and southeast by collecting, identifying, and compiling artifacts and observational/spatial archaeological data. Maintain quality control for precise measurement and documentation, support basic professional archaeological work for cultural resources, and generate accurate reports using electronic systems and field notes. Follow safety and site procedures, complete assigned training, and perform ethical, responsible work while traveling to project sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities

•Under general supervision, collect, identify, and compile artifacts and observational/spatial archaeological data from field sites.
•Maintain quality control standards for accurate and precise measurement and documentation.
•Assist with basic professional archaeological work related to cultural resources, including verifying site characteristics and providing entry-level technical assistance.
•Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
•Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, complete assigned training, and travel to project sites as needed.

Key Requirements

•Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology (or closely related) plus archaeological field school or similar field experience.
•3-5 years of archaeological or anthropology related experience.
•Experience conducting Phase I/Class III pedestrian survey and shovel testing.
•Physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather and follow instructions.
•Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with scientific and non-scientific audiences.
