Job Summary

Develop plastic components for medical products, partnering with experienced engineers to translate designs into manufacturable, high-volume processes. Own plastics assembly process development, material selection, prototype development, and manufacturing feasibility using design-for-manufacturing principles. Lead external suppliers across injection molding, tooling, and assembly equipment, and help internal teams build robust manufacturing stations with appropriate documentation and process qualification.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide direction and input to the development team as a plastics expert, including assembly process development.
•Support transfer of designs to high-volume manufacturing using manufacturing feasibility and design-for-manufacturing principles.
•Perform material selection and prototype development for plastic components.
•Source and lead external suppliers for areas such as plastic injection molding, tooling, assembly equipment, and materials.
•Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing teams to develop robust manufacturing stations.

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•Degree in Plastics, Manufacturing, or Manufacturing Engineering.
•Understanding of plastic materials and rubbers, including medical-grade materials.
•Practical experience with plastic molding (e.g., injection molding, mold design, micro-molding, compression/transfer molding, LIM, blow molding, thermoforming).
•Understanding component assembly from prototype to high-volume manufacturing, including design of experiments, assembly fixture design, and assembly documentation (Ops, IQ/OQ/PQs, PFMEAs).
•Practical experience with plastics assembly methods such as ultrasonic welding, laser welding, and bonding techniques; medical device manufacturing requirements/testing is preferred.
