Job Summary

Oversee risk management and compliance for the Spanish branch of Monzo Bank Europe as a key 2LOD leader. Implement the local Risk Management Framework, monitor operational, conduct, compliance, ICT/security, and business risks, and support regulatory engagement with Banco de España. Provide independent oversight to the Spain Branch Manager, serve as Deputy MLRO for AML/CFT coverage, and build risk governance tooling, reporting, and employee training.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as the primary 2LOD point of contact for the Spain branch, embedding a risk and compliance culture and reporting to EU risk leadership.
•Monitor and interpret regulatory updates from Banco de España, integrate changes into operating procedures, and draft regulatory risk/compliance reports for local and EU committees.
•Oversee operational risk, contribute to RCSA, and provide targeted 2LOD oversight on ICT/cybersecurity, data privacy (GDPR/local data protection), and payment services compliance (PSD2/PSD3/PSR transitions).
•Review and challenge conduct risk and compliance processes, including complaints handling, trend analysis, product governance, and compliance assurance sign-offs for marketing materials.
•Act as designated Deputy MLRO for Spain, support AML/CFT compliance frameworks and internal reporting, and provide 2LOD coverage and backup as required.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 7 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance or Internal Audit within a regulated retail bank, digital bank, or top-tier fintech operating in Spain
•Deep understanding of Banco de España regulations and broader EBA/ECB regulatory requirements (CRD V, PSD2/3, GDPR, DORA, AML/CFT)
•Proven experience working with regulatory authorities and managing compliance-related audits
•Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple risk types, with specific expertise in Operational Risk, ICT/Security Risk, Conduct risk, Compliance Risk and credit portfolio quality reviews
•Native or completely bilingual Spanish speaker with excellent professional English proficiency (written and spoken)
