Job Summary

Senior technical lead in water quality modelling within AECOM’s Water Environment team. Lead complex water quality assessments (rivers, lakes, transitional and coastal waters), mentor junior staff, and develop modelling tools and reports for clients including water utilities, government agencies and local authorities. Collaborate with hydrologists, network modellers and engineers across UK offices, with a hybrid working model and regional hubs.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead water quality assessments in rivers, lakes, and coastal waterbodies and develop tools for efficient, innovative client solutions.
•Build and review high-quality technical reports documenting model builds and uncertainties.
•Mentor staff and develop junior team members’ skills and professional growth.
•Engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver a wide range of fluvial and coastal water quality projects.
•Lead tenders and contribute to multi-million pound framework contracts while staying compliant with legislation and guidelines

Key Requirements

•Masters degree (or equivalent) in hydrology, engineering, maths or other relevant discipline
•Expertise in water quality, including knowledge on cryptosporidium, PFAS, geosmin and disinfection by products and effective treatment means
•Significant experience in fluvial and/or coastal water quality modelling software including demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for UPM or WINEP studies
•Experience completing mass balance calculations including simple, flow-weighted and Monte Carlo approaches and understanding of hydrological assessments (e.g. REFH2, FEH)
•Proven ability in technical project delivery from bid preparation to project management, with strong report writing and ability to present complex information visually and orally
