Job Summary

Deliver high-voltage substation design and upgrades for nationally significant electricity network infrastructure projects, supporting initiatives like the Great Grid Upgrade. Produce grid and primary substation drawings, technical specifications (11kV–132kV), feasibility reports, layouts, and equipment plant specifications. Review supplier and client designs for compliance, manage health and safety design responsibilities as CDM Designer/Principal Designer, and contribute to delivery through site meetings and client relationship development.

Key Responsibilities

•Produce design drawings for grid and primary substations.
•Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and provide electrical designs for substation upgrades and new substations (11kV–132kV).
•Produce feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, GA drawings, and plant specifications (including transformers, switchgear, and battery systems).
•Review supplier and client designs to ensure technical compliance with current legislation and policies; ensure delivery meets contract and specification requirements.
•Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer responsibilities and manage identified health and safety risks; attend site meetings to support design/requirement changes.

Key Requirements

•HNC in Electrical Engineering (minimum qualification).
•Proven experience designing HV and EHV substations (AIS & GIS) from 11kV up to and including 132kV.
•Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV/EHV substations, including earthing and electrical clearances.
•Exposure to substation cable design and protection and control.
•Experience with design cost estimation and technical studies such as load calculations and rating studies.
