Job Summary

Contribute to research on low-power sensing and computing for AR/VR camera systems, co-designing hardware and algorithms for AI agents. Work on novel sensor/imaging architectures, end-to-end imaging pipelines from optical/sensor physics through ISP to perception models, and develop machine vision models co-optimized for power, bandwidth, and latency. Use VLM/LLM and world-model insights to define what sensing must preserve or discard.
Location: San Jose
Workplace: Onsite
Employment Type: Internship
Job Function: Energy & Utilities Operations
Seniority: Intern level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Design and prototype novel sensor or imaging architectures that move computation closer to the sensing front-end (e.g., near-sensor processing, event-driven capture, learned pixel-level compression).
  • •Build and characterize end-to-end imaging pipelines from optical/sensor physics through ISP to downstream perception models, identifying where data/compute can be optimized.
  • •Use VLM/LLM and world-model understanding to determine what the sensing front-end must preserve, discard, or transform.
  • •Develop or adapt machine vision models that are co-optimized with hardware constraints (power, bandwidth, latency).

Key Requirements

  • •PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, AI, or a related discipline.
  • •Strong foundation in imaging systems, sensor technology, or machine learning/computer vision.
  • •Hands-on experience with VLM/LLM, world models, or large-scale vision foundation models, including data and architectural requirements.
  • •Track record of high-impact publication such as Nature, Science, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, or equivalent.
  • •Ability to bridge hardware and algorithm thinking and collaborate effectively in teams.
