Key Responsibilities

  • •Contribute to full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HV cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
  • •Undertake cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short-circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
  • •Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
  • •Support interface activities with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs, and other international standards.

Key Requirements

  • •Ideally hold an Electrical Engineering degree, or at minimum be HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • •Have some experience in cable system design engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, with FEED experience essential.
  • •Have some experience in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably with National Grid experience.
  • •Understand onshore cable routing, cable pulling/mechanical forces, and cable burial risk assessments and protection strategies.
  • •Be familiar with electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analysis, and basic national/international standards including IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TPs.
