Job Summary

Own the technical direction for DigitalOcean’s Identity platform, shaping IAM architecture across hyperscale, multi-tenant systems and AI-native enterprise workloads. Lead agentic workload identity design (short-lived credentials, delegation chains, identity context propagation), drive adoption of OIDC/SAML/SCIM, and evolve the authorization policy engine (RBAC/ABAC/PBAC). Partner across IAM, Inference, Billing, and DOKS to resolve architectural conflicts, establish engineering standards, and mentor IC2/IC3 engineers.

Key Responsibilities

•Set the technical direction for DigitalOcean’s Identity platform architecture for hyperscale, multi-tenant systems and AI-native enterprise requirements.
•Architect IAM foundations for agentic AI workloads, including workload identity, short-lived credential issuance, delegation chains, and identity context propagation.
•Own identity protocol adoption strategy and standardization across OIDC, SAML, SCIM, and emerging standards, including federation for enterprise/global partners.
•Define long-term authorization policy engine architecture using compound RBAC/ABAC/PBAC models, hierarchical resource scoping, and network-aware access conditions.
•Establish engineering standards for IAM, mentor IC2/IC3 engineers, and translate identity platform strategy to executive leadership.

Key Requirements

•7+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years focused on Identity (AuthN/AuthZ), security products, or high-scale distributed systems at cloud/enterprise scale.
•Expert-level proficiency in Go and deep experience with gRPC microservices architecture at scale.
•Deep knowledge of identity protocols (OIDC, OAuth2, SAML, SCIM) and access control models (RBAC, ABAC, PBAC), with ability to design novel identity systems.
•Familiarity with workload identity standards (SPIFFE/SPIRE or equivalent) and experience designing non-human identity systems for distributed/agentic workloads.
•Deep experience with Kubernetes, SQL (MySQL), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), including multi-region/availability-zone system design.
