Job Summary

Oversee risk management and compliance for Monzo’s Spanish branch as part of the Second Line of Defense. Implement the local risk management framework, monitor operational, conduct, ICT/security, compliance, credit, and business risks, and support regulatory engagements with Banco de España. Provide independent challenge to the Branch Manager, cover Customer Service Representative duties and deputy MLRO support for AML/CFT, and drive governance, reporting, dashboards, and training across Spanish operations.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as the primary 2LOD point of contact for the Spanish branch, embedding a risk and compliance culture and providing independent oversight, challenge, and advice.
•Monitor and interpret local regulatory updates from Banco de España and other authorities, and coordinate drafting regulatory risk and compliance reports for local and EU-level committees.
•Oversee operational risk profiling and participate in the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, including targeted 2LOD oversight for ICT, cybersecurity, and data privacy (GDPR/local data protection).
•Oversee conduct, compliance, and consumer protection activities, including customer service representative duties, compliance assurance reviews, and 2LOD compliance review/sign-off for Spanish advertising and marketing materials.
•Act as designated Deputy MLRO for Spain, supporting AML/CFT compliance frameworks and regulatory interactions with relevant authorities (e.g., SEPBLAC).

Key Requirements

•Minimum 7 years’ experience in Risk Management, Compliance or Internal Audit within a regulated retail bank, digital bank, or top-tier fintech operating in Spain
•Deep understanding of Banco de España regulations and broader EBA/ECB requirements including CRD V, PSD2/3, GDPR, DORA, and AML/CFT
•Proven experience working with regulatory authorities and managing compliance-related audits
•Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing multiple risk types, with expertise in Operational Risk, ICT/Security Risk, Conduct risk, Compliance Risk, and basic Credit Portfolio Quality reviews
•Native or completely bilingual Spanish speaker with excellent professional English proficiency (written and spoken)
