Key Responsibilities

  • •Apply safety, health, and environmental principles; identify risks and follow discipline-specific systems to avoid hazards during site interactions.
  • •Develop and optimise mine designs including pit layouts and haulage routes, and create short-term and long-term mine plans based on geological data and production targets.
  • •Design and implement mine infrastructure (roads, drainage systems, waste disposal areas) and plan installation/maintenance of utilities such as water and power to support operations.
  • •Conduct geotechnical and stability analysis, cost-benefit analysis, feasibility studies, and produce regular reports tracking design progress and compliance.
  • •Execute infrastructure projects within timeframes and budgets, monitor resources and contractor performance, and continuously improve mine design efficiency and sustainability.

Key Requirements

  • •Grade 12 or equivalent, with a National Diploma in Mining Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field (NQF7) preferred.
  • •Technical knowledge of mine design processes, including pit optimisation, haul road design, waste dump management, and site layout.
  • •Geotechnical and stability engineering knowledge to ensure safe mine and infrastructure designs.
  • •Familiarity with mine planning/design software such as Surpac, Datamine, and AutoCAD (including AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • •Ability to manage budgets and feasibility/cost-benefit analysis, with knowledge of South African safety standards, mining regulations, and risk management.
