Job Summary

Provide practical, commercial legal advice on global payments and financial services regulation for Xero’s payments roadmap. Partner with product, risk, and strategy teams to navigate complex regulatory questions across Australia, the US, and the UK, including financial crime (AML/CTF and sanctions) and AFSL obligations. Support regulatory guardrails for new payment participation models, build regulator relationships, and mentor junior legal team members as Xero expands embedded financial services capability.

Key Responsibilities

•Serve as a trusted voice on payments and financial services regulation, advising the business with practical, commercial guidance.
•Partner with product, risk, and strategy teams to address complex regulatory questions across markets.
•Focus on global payments regulation, financial services law, and financial crime requirements including AML/CTF and sanctions.
•Advise on regulatory guardrails for new payment participation models as Xero’s product suite grows.
•Mentor junior legal team members and support expansion of payments and embedded financial services capabilities into the US and UK.

Key Requirements

•Relevant law degree and a current practising certificate.
•8+ years PQE with solid financial services regulatory and payments experience.
•Experience providing regulatory advice to a global, growth-focused technology business.
•Run large-scale regulatory projects and liaise directly with financial regulators.
•Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory detail into plain English and communicate to different audiences.
