Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide materials selection, characterization, qualification, and manufacturing process support for metallic and metal-joined hardware for Starlink satellites and ground infrastructure.
  • •Develop mechanical and physical properties for metallic alloys and joints and deliver data, allowable, and process recommendations to the design community.
  • •Perform root cause investigations and failure analysis using fractography, metallography, SEM-EDS, optical microscopy, and other characterization methods.
  • •Develop, qualify, troubleshoot, and optimize metal joining processes in production, accounting for process variables and resulting material performance.
  • •Provide technical review to advise design on alloy selection, material/process specifications, fracture requirements, and design-for-manufacturability, including supplier collaboration for metallic components.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in a materials-focused engineering field (Materials Science/Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or similar).
  • •Experience with aluminum and other metal alloys for structural/non-structural and electronic applications, plus metal-joining processes (welding, brazing, soldering, sintering).
  • •Hands-on familiarity with characterization techniques and equipment such as SEM-EDS and optical microscopy, as well as mechanical property testing and related spectroscopy/composition/phase work.
  • •Ability to develop, qualify, troubleshoot, and optimize welding/joining processes for production, understanding how process variables affect material performance.
  • •Meet ITAR requirements (e.g., be a U.S. citizen/national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required Department of State authorizations).
