Job Summary

Conduct materials and device research to improve thin-film solar cell performance, stability, and manufacturing cost. Plan, execute, and characterize development engineering experiments in lab and manufacturing environments, using statistical and engineering methods to optimize processes. Own improvement opportunities in efficiency and materials/process/equipment specifications, and communicate effectively across teams. May mentor junior peers while ensuring compliance with Environmental, Quality, and Safety policies.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform material and device research to enhance thin film solar cell performance and stability while reducing manufacturing cost.
•Lead highly complex development engineering projects requiring significant innovation and contribution to department objectives.
•Plan, execute, and characterize development engineering experiments in lab and manufacturing settings with strategic foresight.
•Improve state-of-the-art material analysis and statistical analysis techniques, and develop experimental execution plans with unclear solution paths.
•May determine/evaluate material and tool/equipment specifications and may train, mentor, and manage junior peers; comply with Environmental, Quality, and Safety policies.

Travel: Low travel

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 84,200 - 120,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Associate’s degree in an engineering or similar technical discipline and 20 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
•Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (or similar) and 10 years of relevant technical experience, or 5 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
•Master’s degree in an engineering discipline (or similar) and 8 years of relevant technical experience, or 3 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
•Ph.D. in relevant fields (Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or Polymer Chemistry) and 5 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years as a Development Engineer II at First Solar.
•Expertise in photovoltaic material/polymer science and polymer/materials formulation, with hands-on experience in laboratory or manufacturing environments and strong communication skills.
