Job Summary

Build and improve the incident insights and readiness experience by owning on-call best practices and developing the software and platforms that support on-call rotations and compensation. Lead the design and implementation of tooling to streamline incident response, contribute to post-mortems, and help teams run blameless incident reviews. Provide technical leadership and day-to-day coaching, train on-callers, and drive cross-functional initiatives to enhance reliability and operational excellence across Datadog.

Key Responsibilities

•Own and improve the on-call experience by establishing best practices and building platforms to support on-call rotations and compensation.
•Define incident response, lead design and implementation of software to streamline incident handling, and collaborate with product teams to improve incident response across Datadog.
•Contribute to post-mortems by collaborating on writing them and identifying opportunities to reduce friction and enhance learning value; run a weekly postmortem reading group.
•Support incident reviews that emphasize learning and blamelessness, and help teams share learnings to improve organizational resilience.
•Provide technical leadership and day-to-day coaching, train on-callers on incident/post-mortem processes, and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve reliability and operational excellence.

Key Requirements

•At least 5 years building software that solves real user problems, including designing new features and collaborating on code and technical design reviews.
•Experience building or operating distributed systems with familiarity with Kubernetes and an understanding of complex failure modes.
•Ability to independently own ambiguous technical problems from design through delivery while balancing engineering quality with pragmatic execution.
•Experience analyzing incidents, identifying systemic risks, and driving engineering improvements based on operational learnings.
•Experience participating in on-call rotations and improving incident response processes (incident commander/coordinator experience is a plus).
