Job Summary

Build and maintain Agent Observability features that help AI agents interact across the full software delivery lifecycle. Design and implement GraphQL and REST APIs for reliable, scalable backend behavior across GitLab’s monolith and AI gateway, improve automated testing with RSpec, and participate in Tier 2 on-call. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to ship high-quality, evidence-driven enhancements in a remote, async team.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop, ship, and maintain Agent Observability and interaction features across GitLab monolith backend and the AI gateway in a secure, tested, performant way.
•Collaborate with Product Management, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver iterative product enhancements.
•Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and related backend logic, ensuring reliability, scalability, and clear frontend contracts.
•Improve and extend automated testing, including RSpec and other frameworks, to strengthen quality and developer feedback loops.
•Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues, support root cause analysis, and enhance observability and resiliency.

Key Requirements

•Experience building and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails, including background jobs, APIs, and data models.
•Comfort working across the stack in a mature codebase; familiarity with Python backends and/or Vue frontends is a plus.
•Proficiency designing or extending REST and/or GraphQL APIs with attention to scalability, maintainability, and backward compatibility.
•Strong hands-on experience working with AI tooling daily; experience shipping AI-powered backend features and integrations is a plus.
•SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including efficient query writing and data modeling.
