Job Summary

Join the Nature Services team to provide technical leadership for ornithology surveys supporting schemes across the UK, many focused on decarbonisation and the energy transition. You’ll oversee breeding and wintering bird surveys, act as ornithology lead on projects from onshore wind to energy infrastructure upgrades, contribute to key deliverables, prepare tenders, and support clients while mentoring the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide technical advice, planning, and oversight of ornithology surveys across schemes linked to decarbonisation and the energy transition.
•Serve as ornithology lead on schemes including onshore windfarm projects and linear schemes such as hydrogen pipelines and energy infrastructure upgrades.
•Oversee surveys including breeding bird, wintering bird, vantage point, and intertidal bird surveys.
•Prepare tenders for ornithology schemes and contribute to deliverables such as Ecological Impact Assessments, biodiversity chapters, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Schedule 1 licence applications.
•Handle client liaison and project management, and provide mentoring and training to the wider ornithology team.

Key Requirements

•Experience in carrying out and/or managing breeding and wintering bird surveys across various habitat types.
•Experience in report writing, with the level of experience dependent on seniority.
•Ability to work well as part of a team of Nature Services professionals.
•Good working knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation pertaining to ornithology.
