Key Responsibilities

  • •Serve as the primary subject matter expert for UMD Energy Systems electrical, instrumentation, and control components, equipment, and systems.
  • •Analyze, design, and operate medium-voltage distribution systems, electric power generation, and industrial instrumentation and control systems.
  • •Perform power systems modeling and studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) using SKM Power*Tools, including load flow and evaluation of building tie-ins and load allocations.
  • •Optimize and maintain turbine generator sets and upgrade/maintain MV drives, medium-voltage breakers/switchgear, and protection relays.
  • •Analyze SCADA/DCS real-time data to optimize the central energy plant, maintain KPIs and budgets, implement new technologies, manage vendors, and lead capital projects through completion with safety compliance.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • •Professional Engineer (PE) license registered in the State of Maryland (or ability to obtain reciprocity).
  • •10+ years of direct experience analyzing, designing, and operating electrical equipment/systems, including medium-voltage electric distribution (≥ 13.8 kV), electric power generation, and industrial instrumentation/control.
  • •SKM Power*Tools experience for short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
  • •Be physically present on campus at UMD at least five days per week and dedicated solely to the NextGen Program.
