Job Summary

Lead end-to-end delivery of UK highway design projects within WSP’s UK GCC Highways team. You’ll apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex design challenges, manage multiple projects across timelines and budgets, and ensure compliance with QA, CDM, Sustainability, and HSE standards. Serve as a technical specialist and key liaison with UK stakeholders while managing and mentoring a team of up to 15 engineers and designers.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead end-to-end delivery of UK highway design projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
•Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex design challenges and drive innovation in design approaches and methodologies.
•Manage multiple projects simultaneously with efficient resource allocation and delivery outcomes.
•Ensure compliance with QA, CDM, Sustainability, and HSE standards; proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and technical issues.
•Lead and manage a team of up to 15 engineers and designers, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and supervision while supporting early career development.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 5+ years of experience in UK highway design, including road geometry, pavement design, road restraint systems, signage and road markings, and site clearance.
•Strong proficiency in design tools including Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MX, PDS/Keyline, AutoCAD, and ProjectWise.
•Proven experience leading teams and managing stakeholders, plus project and resource management.
•Ability to deliver projects within budget and programme constraints and produce technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
•Strong understanding of UK design standards and emerging industry trends; excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
