Lead and grow the Context team, owning a critical backend platform for AI search: customer integrations, knowledge base ingestion and retrieval, data synchronization, and long-term context management. Split your time between hands-on engineering (coding, PR reviews, architecture decisions) and people leadership (hiring 4–8 engineers, setting expectations, running planning). Drive measurable retrieval quality and be the escalation point when integrations break or data goes stale.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead the Context roadmap in partnership with the CTO, Head of Engineering, and product leadership.
•Hire and develop a team of 4 to 8 engineers, including running interview loops and setting expectations.
•Drive technical decisions on retrieval quality and measurement, graph and memory schemas, sync architectures under partial failure, and integration framework design.
•Own retrieval quality as a measurable product surface using evals to catch regressions early.
•Ship code on the highest-leverage parts of the system and act as the engineering point of contact when integrations break or agents retrieve incorrectly.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 230,000 - 275,000 annually

Key Requirements

•7+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 2 years managing or tech-leading a team.
•Strong Python; Rust is strongly preferred.
•Hands-on production experience building search/retrieval systems (embeddings, vector stores, hybrid search, reranking, chunking).
•Experience integrating third-party APIs at scale, including OAuth, token refresh, and handling connector failures.
•Strong Postgres skills and experience with data synchronization correctness (incremental sync, idempotency, backfills, reconciliation).
