Job Summary

Serve as program management staff embedded in a contractor’s design-build team, acting as a liaison for a tunneling design unit. Oversee development of tunnel lining and related construction plans, track design progress, and coordinate with contractor teams and stakeholders. Manage interfaces, right-of-way and environmental considerations, support RFIs and external design submittal reviews, and keep CP2 management informed on cost and schedule impacts.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as liaison for a tunneling design unit (DU) within the contractor’s design-build team.
•Oversee development of tunnel lining, precast concrete manufacturing, TBM laydown, muck disposal, and tunneling work plans.
•Coordinate with contractor teams and external stakeholders (e.g., BART, Caltrans, Caltrain, UPRR, City of Santa Clara) and integrate with DU managers.
•Track design development progress, focus on requirements and interface issues, and manage right-of-way and environmental considerations.
•Coordinate RFIs and external design submittal reviews, participate in VTA design reviews, and report DU issues to CP2 management at a program level.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
•5+ years of relevant post-education experience with geotechnical design.
•California PE is strongly preferred.
•Experience leading design of large-diameter tunnel linings and planning tunneling projects in urban areas.
•Experience with stakeholder coordination on major tunneling projects (e.g., BART, Caltrans, Caltrain, UPRR, City of Santa Clara).
