Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead technical design discussions and make pragmatic decisions aligned with HSBC architecture, security, and engineering standards.
  • •Drive delivery across the full lifecycle: requirements clarification, design, build, testing, release, and production support.
  • •Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance RESTful APIs (and event-driven APIs where applicable) with clear versioning and lifecycle management.
  • •Ensure web and APIs meet non-functional requirements including reliability, latency, scalability, observability, and security.
  • •Mentor engineers via pairing, design reviews, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback; collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, Security, and Operations.

Key Requirements

  • •Solid understanding of microservices architecture, resilience patterns (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers), and performance optimisation.
  • •Hands-on experience designing and building enterprise-grade APIs (REST; event-driven patterns a plus).
  • •Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies.
  • •Working knowledge of containerisation and cloud-native delivery (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes) and production support practices.
  • •Hands-on Web experience and frontend-to-backend integration patterns (e.g., Node.js, Angular, React, AEM; BFF, API gateways, pagination/filtering, idempotency, and UI error/timeout behaviours).
