Job Summary

Build and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine for observability workloads. You’ll lead the architectural evolution of storage-engine components, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization, and drive cross-organization initiatives. Working with a globally distributed team, you’ll write idiomatic modern Java, triage and review issues and pull requests, and serve as an SME and trusted technical advisor across key Elasticsearch areas.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine.

•Work with globally distributed engineers on logs and metrics capabilities, triaging and reviewing issues and pull requests.

Key Requirements

•Strong experience building high-performance, scalable database/search/distributed systems with focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
•Strong core Java skills, including deep understanding of concurrency primitives and ability to design/optimize data structures and algorithms.
•Experience efficiently indexing, storing, and querying time-series or logs data.
•Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
•Ability to collaborate in a distributed environment with strong verbal and written communication skills.
