Job Summary

Troubleshoot and maintain fiber and network equipment to help ensure secure, high-performance connectivity. Support installs, provisioning, testing, and preventive maintenance across transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers, while assisting with edge compute and fiber transport technologies. Manage tools, spares, and materials, perform underground outside plant locating/marking/protection, maintain records and trouble-tickets, and participate in 24x7 on-call restoration for service interruptions.

Key Responsibilities

•Troubleshoot network equipment, remove/replace defective modules or equipment, and help isolate and restore network service while proactively identifying potential problem areas.
•Assist with installation/change/decommissioning and testing of technologies including Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers; may install and test network/CPE for end user services.
•Use industry tools to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities as part of fiber locating/right-of-way work.
•Perform level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment, including HVAC, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
•Maintain asset management by tracking spares/materials, coordinating shipping/receiving, updating installation records, entering trouble-ticket logs, and providing status reports during assignments and restorations.

Key Requirements

•High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
•Entry-level technician knowledge of at least one discipline: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP, or Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing).
•Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
•PC skills with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, plus ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
•On-call 24x7 rotational basis and a valid driver’s license; able to perform physical work including lifting 50 lbs. and working in all weather conditions.
