Job Summary

Lead the Feed Retrieval team that powers Reddit’s personalized feeds by building and optimizing retrieval systems for candidate identification and selection. Own the technical vision and roadmap for recommender-system investments, align priorities across quality, coverage, experimentation speed, cost, and reliability, and coach ML engineers. Partner with platform, infrastructure, ranking, safety, and product teams to deliver scalable, low-latency, responsible recommendation experiences for 120M+ daily users.

Key Responsibilities

•Define the technical vision and long-term roadmap for Feed Retrieval, aligning recommender-system investments with product and business objectives
•Translate Feed Relevance goals into a prioritized team roadmap across model quality, inventory expansion, experimentation velocity, infrastructure cost, and operational reliability
•Coach and develop the team of ML engineers to grow skills and impact
•Oversee design, development, and optimization of retrieval systems sourcing relevant, diverse, fresh, high-quality candidates
•Establish measurement, experimentation, and debugging practices and collaborate cross-functionally to improve retrieval quality and downstream impact

Key Requirements

•2+ years building and managing high-performing ML or recommender-systems teams
•Hands-on experience with large-scale production ML systems, including recommender systems, retrieval models, embedding/indexing, sequence models, transformer-based architectures, or LLM-powered recommendation
•Strong understanding of recommender systems, especially candidate retrieval, embedding/indexing, ranking handoffs, feed personalization, exploration, content quality, and measurement
•Ability to develop and communicate a technical strategy across ambiguous problem spaces while balancing relevance, scalability, ecosystem health, and business impact
•Strong interpersonal skills to communicate complex technical topics and collaborate effectively across teams
