Key Responsibilities

  • •Progress each file from receipt of papers through resolution of costs, proactively reviewing cases and formulating initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
  • •Prepare points of dispute and consider replies; identify and document strengths and weaknesses of your case and the opponent’s costs claimed.
  • •Negotiate settlement of costs using the telephone and provide advice to clients with clear, succinct communication.
  • •Update clients on progress, handle correspondence and telephone calls within SLAs, and undertake periodic file reviews in line with client requirements.
  • •Instruct counsel and attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings, mediations, and court application hearings (remotely and in person) to advocate your position, meeting Keoghs quality standards and performance targets.

Key Requirements

  • •12 months experience in a similar costs negotiator role handling your own caseload (claimant or defendant).
  • •Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD.
  • •Previous client liaison experience, providing advice verbally and in writing.
  • •Experience of the Detailed Assessment process, including preparing Points of Dispute and considering replies.
  • •Good telephone negotiation skills and knowledge of current costs case law and insurance litigation practice/process.
