Key Responsibilities

  • •Act in a senior technical capacity producing primary engineering deliverables for transmission & distribution substations and renewable projects.
  • •Draft scopes and develop conceptual designs, execution plans, and engineering cost and man-hour estimates with schedules.
  • •Create detailed engineering drawings for EHV projects across AIS and GIS (11kV–400kV), including design calculations and layouts (e.g., grounding, conduit, lighting and lightning protection).
  • •Coordinate design activities across departments (civil/structural, networks, transmission line), run design reviews/meetings, and ensure submissions meet quality standards.
  • •Provide FEED-stage consultancy outputs (technical reports/presentations), maintain compliance with CDM regulations and legal requirements, and mentor junior engineers while driving safety-by-design.

Key Requirements

  • •5–10 years of experience in Substation Transmission & Distribution, renewable (onshore/offshore wind, solar) and BESS projects.
  • •Thorough knowledge applying National Grid Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks for UK substations.
  • •Understanding of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation for design and construction in the electricity supply industry.
  • •Experience in lead substation design for National Grid Electricity Transmission projects (or similar UK utilities) is an advantage.
  • •Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution; professional membership (e.g., IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE) is desirable.
