Key Responsibilities

  • •Carry out planned preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, inspections, servicing, fault-finding, and testing for mechanical building services.
  • •Maintain and repair boilers, pumps, heating and chilled water systems, calorifiers, pressure systems, and associated plant room equipment.
  • •Support ventilation system maintenance and operation, including air handling units, extract systems, fans, filters, and associated controls.
  • •Respond promptly to plant failures, alarms, leaks, and service interruptions, escalating risks as necessary to protect critical services.
  • •Accurately record maintenance activity, repairs, asset information, and compliance evidence in a CAFM system and work safely under permits, risk assessments, and statutory regulations.

Key Requirements

  • •Complete a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent structured training, with a relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g., NVQ/City and Guilds) in mechanical engineering, plumbing, heating, building services, or HVAC.
  • •Experience maintaining mechanical building services in a commercial, industrial, healthcare, or similarly regulated environment.
  • •Strong fault-finding and repair skills across a range of mechanical plant and systems, with the ability to identify practical solutions.
  • •Good understanding of safe systems of work, permit-to-work procedures, risk assessments, and mechanical isolation processes.
  • •Confident using CAFM or maintenance management systems to maintain accurate records and documentation.
