Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead and manage the acquisition and maintenance of licenses, permits, and authorizations related to energetic materials (e.g., ATF, DoD, state fire marshal).
  • •Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all energetic materials safety matters with regulatory bodies (e.g., ATF, DoD Explosives Safety Board, State Fire Marshal, OSHA, EPA).
  • •Establish and maintain adherence to waste management protocols for hazardous and energetic waste, ensuring compliant disposal and demilitarization processes.
  • •Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive explosives safety plans, operating procedures, safety cases, hazard classifications, and quantity distance (QD) calculations for facilities, operations, and test activities.
  • •Conduct and document regular and specialized explosives safety inspections, audits, and compliance assessments of facilities, equipment, and operations.

Salary: USD 99,000 - 131,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
  • •5+ years of progressive experience in explosives safety engineering, process safety, or a related role within a manufacturing, R&D, or test environment involving energetic materials
  • •Must be able to pass an ATF background check
  • •Demonstrated expertise in conducting explosives safety audits, inspections, hazard classifications, and quantity distance (QD) assessments
  • •Deep and current knowledge of federal explosives safety regulations (e.g., ATF, DoD 6055.09-M, AFMAN 91-201, DA PAM 385-64, NAVSEA OP 5), NFPA codes, and industry best practices for energetic materials
