Key Responsibilities

  • •Own parts of the CLI workspace runtime, including migrating users off a legacy IDE and enabling asynchronous background agent runs.
  • •Design and build agent-facing experiences such as streaming responses, transparent tool calls, diff review, and rich charting outputs for conversational analytics.
  • •Extend dbt into other developer surfaces through MCP integrations usable from AI clients like Claude and Codex.
  • •Lead well-scoped projects end to end: plan, partner with design/product, ship in two-week increments, and measure outcomes.
  • •Share oncall and customer support for these surfaces and mentor engineers earlier in their careers.

Key Requirements

  • •5+ years building production software with senior-level ownership across projects that ran for months and involved several people.
  • •Deep Python experience plus exposure to TypeScript and React, moving across the stack end to end.
  • •Have built and maintained a developer surface others rely on (e.g., IDE/editor extension/CLI/SDK/LSP/data tool).
  • •Comfort with operational shipping (APIs, Kubernetes, Postgres, observability) and taking responsibility when something breaks.
  • •Strong written communication and experience working asynchronously in a fully-remote, distributed team.
