Job Summary

Join the Persistence team within Vercel’s Compute division to build low-level compute infrastructure in Hive, powering storage and state for Builds, Sandboxes, and Functions. You’ll manage and improve clustered compute running across regions, write Go and use Terraform for provisioning, and work with Linux primitives, virtual filesystems, and low-level virtualization. Own reliability and performance with on-call coverage, improving developer experience at major scale.

Key Responsibilities

•Manage and improve a fleet of clusters running 100s of instances across every region where customers deploy and run code.
•Write Golang daily and use Terraform to provision infrastructure, working with Nomad to manage workloads.
•Rethink infrastructure primitives using virtual filesystems, Linux primitives, and low-level virtualisation.
•Own reliability and performance of the compute platform, including on-call coverage for scaled improvements.
•Collaborate across teams to drive the convergence of compute across Vercel.

Key Requirements

•5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong preference for Golang.
•Deep experience with virtual machines, file systems, and Linux.
•Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale with a focus on performance and reliability.
•Experience with schedulers and orchestrators for managing containers and non-containerised workloads (e.g., Nomad, Kubernetes).
•Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with enthusiasm for investigating hard problems.
