Job Summary

Support Canva’s Product and Privacy teams by advising on legal issues across online content and product safety, platform and privacy, intellectual property, and AI regulation. Help operationalize company-wide safety and privacy policies, build scalable legal review and risk frameworks, and coordinate responses to safety, privacy, and data security incidents. Stay current on global AI, safety, and privacy regulations and contribute to compliance projects and training.

Key Responsibilities

•Identify and advise on legal issues across content and product safety (including youth and AI), platform, privacy, intellectual property, and AI regulation.
•Advise product development (including generative AI products) and support go-to-market strategy and risk mitigation with a focus on safety issues.
•Develop and operationalize safety policies and processes, including inquiry handling, risk assessment frameworks, regulatory monitoring, and online/child safety focus.
•Draft and maintain legal playbooks and internal guidance; help build scalable legal review processes to enable new product launches.
•Participate in reviewing and coordinating safety, privacy, or data security incidents (including on call), including investigations, notifications, and resolution efforts.

Key Requirements

•Legally qualified with an AU/NZ practising certificate.
•8+ years practicing law, with some in-house experience.
•Familiarity with online safety laws and regulations, plus privacy, platform, and consumer laws for digital products and generative AI.

•Experience with data incidents and government authority requests.
