Job Summary

Perform power testing and energization work for Protection and Control systems on high-voltage utility substations across Texas and Louisiana. Execute hands-on protective relay testing, including transmission/generation/distribution relay calibration and control-scheme verification using tools such as Omicron and Doble test sets. Document field activities with digital tools, support project leads, mentor junior technicians, and maintain safety, regulatory compliance, and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high-voltage substations.
•Conduct on-site protective relay testing and calibration using relay test sets (e.g., Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150) and validate tested relay examples.
•Document site activities using field forms, digital tools, and mobile applications; maintain accurate logs, photos, and label entries.
•Support project leadership (Project Lead/Field Supervisor), escalate complex technical issues, and provide informal guidance to less experienced technicians.
•Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols; perform related field clerical duties (timecards, expense reports, project reports).

Key Requirements

•High school diploma (or equivalent).
•7+ years in the electrical testing industry, including experience with medium/high-voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection & controls testing.
•Expertise in transmission, generation, and distribution relays and protective schemes (e.g., SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
•Hands-on protective relay calibration and testing experience using Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including control scheme and CT/PT circuit testing and microprocessor relay settings/uploading.
•Experience with field testing standards and procedures (e.g., NETA, IEEE, NFPA) and ability to read electrical drawings.
