Key Responsibilities

  • •Manufacture steel work from drawings or samples in carbon steel, aluminium, and stainless steel.
  • •Perform structural fabrication and ship repair methods, including light/heavy fabrication, sheet metal fabrication, and pipe fabrication.
  • •Carry out welding across processes including GMAW, GTAW, and MMAW for ferrous and non-ferrous compositions.
  • •Support JSEAs and risk assessments by providing feedback and relevant information.
  • •Monitor quality control procedures during the welding process and follow commercial safety and OHS regulations.

Key Requirements

  • •Trade qualifications in boilmaking and heavy fabrication.
  • •Experience in ship building/repair (preferred) or other heavy engineering fields such as mining, marine, power stations, gas lines, or bridges.
  • •Welding familiarity with MMAW, GTAW, and GMAW, and experience with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • •Ability to interpret structural drawings and work with workshop machinery and welding equipment.
  • •Defence security clearance requirements: applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.
