Job Summary

Build and operate high-availability backend services for secure, customer-facing package registries and APIs. Own key parts of the Repository team’s infrastructure—driving scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing—while evolving the repository experience from libraries to additional artifact types like containers and APKs. Partner across engineering, product, and security, and mentor peers through technical leadership, architecture, and rigorous design/code review.

Key Responsibilities

•Own the technical direction for key parts of Chainguard Repository, including registries, APIs, and artifact-serving systems.
•Design, build, and operate high-availability backend services in Go that support libraries today and expand to containers and APK repositories.
•Lead scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing efforts for production systems customers depend on.
•Drive technical decisions on repository architecture, service boundaries, and operating patterns for artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
•Mentor engineers and raise the bar on design and code review while partnering with teams across Libraries, Build Platform, Delivery, Product, and Security.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 170,000 - 231,000 annually

Key Requirements

•8+ years building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems with staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
•Strong Go experience, or deep backend systems experience with the ability to ramp quickly in Go.
•Experience building or operating customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, or other high-scale serving systems.
•Experience deploying and managing production services with strong judgment across reliability, observability, performance, and operational tradeoffs.
•Comfort working across application and infrastructure layers, including service development, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
