Key Responsibilities

  • •Code outpatient claims by assigning appropriate E&M, CPT, ICD, and USCLS codes.
  • •Code inpatient claims to derive appropriate DRG codes and severity; code day cases and observations using relevant ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and service codes.
  • •Re-evaluate and update codes on resubmission by adding, deleting, or changing codes based on available documentation to justify services.
  • •Provide coding assistance to doctors and the insurance billing team; address coding queries from billing, laboratory, and radiology departments; follow up on incomplete medical record files.
  • •Prepare for coding audits for accreditation, implement DOH and CCSC mandates, maintain coding statistics for HOD/management, and support auditors during insurance audits.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor degree (preferably with Medical background).
  • •Ability to abstract and assign codes for diagnoses and procedures to both inpatient and outpatient healthcare records with accuracy.
  • •Must clarify ambiguities and highlight inconsistencies found in medical records to physicians, with escalation to the HOD, and document all clarifications.
  • •Ability to follow hospital telephone standards.
  • •Knowledge of coding documentation required to justify performed services.
