Key Responsibilities

  • •Apply safety, health, and environment principles across site interactions, including identifying risks and addressing findings from safety audits, inspections, and observations.
  • •Develop and optimise mine designs, including pit layouts and haulage routes, and create short- and long-term mine plans based on geological data and production targets.
  • •Design and implement mine infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, waste disposal areas, and utilities (water and power) while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and legal regulations.
  • •Perform geotechnical and stability analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and feasibility studies; produce regular reports on design progress and compliance.
  • •Execute infrastructure development projects within set timeframes and budgets by tracking progress, managing resources, and coordinating with contractors and stakeholders for quality control.

Key Requirements

  • •National Diploma in Mining Engineering (NQF6) or a related field (NQF6), or a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (NQF7) or a related field (NQF7).
  • •Understanding of mine design processes such as pit optimisation, haul road design, waste dump management, and site layout.
  • •Expertise in designing critical mine operation infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, and utilities.
  • •Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles affecting mine stability and design.
  • •SA Drivers Licence; additional certifications/training in mine design software such as Surpac, AutoCAD, or Datamine are advantageous.
