Job Summary

Provide independent technical building assessment and advisory services for residential building defects and statutory claims, working in support of Queensland’s Home Warranty Scheme. Conduct inspections, investigate causes, and prepare evidence-based technical reports and Scopes of Work. Maintain your own consulting portfolio while delivering technical leadership, mentoring, and quality assurance for Building Consultants. Collaborate with QBCC representatives, homeowners, and contractors to support consistent claim outcomes and regulatory decisions.

Key Responsibilities

•Conduct inspections and technical assessments of residential building work on behalf of QBCC and other clients.
•Investigate and assess residential defects, incomplete/abandoned works, non-compliant construction, and structural/waterproofing/workmanship issues.
•Determine the nature, extent, and probable cause of defects and incomplete works and assess against relevant codes, standards, and legislation.
•Prepare clear, evidence-based technical reports, findings, recommendations, and detailed Scopes of Work for rectification and completion.
•Maintain a portfolio of matters while providing technical leadership, mentoring, and quality assurance support to a team of Building Consultants.

Key Requirements

•QBCC Open Builder Licence – Medium Rise or above (mandatory minimum).
•Minimum five years’ experience in building consultancy, residential construction, building compliance, defects assessment, building surveying, or a related field.
•Strong knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), Queensland building legislation, Australian Standards, and accepted building industry practices.
•Proven experience assessing residential building defects, incomplete works, non-compliant construction, and rectification requirements.
•Experience preparing technical reports, defect/completion assessments, recommendations, and detailed Scopes of Work.
