Key Responsibilities

  • •Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations while operating gas-fired furnaces to heat metal for rolling.
  • •Direct, locate, and assist in loading metal into furnaces in compliance with specifications.
  • •Monitor gauges and measuring instruments to ensure temperature meets requirements; verify using an optical pyrometer and record finish temperatures.
  • •Record necessary information on the rolling mill log for traceability and maintain visual alertness to reduce defects and variations.
  • •Perform inspections and checks, work material through designated rolls, assist with roll changes, and discharge material to maintain production rate without mixing.
