Build and maintain resilient, scalable platform services that keep Thumbtack reliable, fast, and secure. Set infrastructure and platform direction, design and implement deployment/change/service/infrastructure management processes, and troubleshoot critical production systems across the SDLC. Contribute to observability and performance capabilities for distributed microservices, including capacity planning and rotating on-call duties. Partner cross-functionally to support a high-leverage engineering platform.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, create, and maintain software and systems to improve availability, scalability, and efficiency of Thumbtack services.
•Set architectural direction for infrastructure and platform services while supporting the engineering organization.
•Design and implement tools and processes for deployment, change, service, and infrastructure management.
•Troubleshoot and debug critical systems throughout the SDLC.
•Support capacity planning and demand forecasting and participate in rotating on-call duties.

Key Requirements

•Extensive fluency in AWS and Linux.
•Ability to read, write, and debug code in languages such as Python, Go, PHP, and JavaScript.
•Expertise designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems across web technologies like DNS, TLS, HTTP/S, and TCP/IP.
•Ability to decompose complex problems and understand tradeoffs to deliver impact.
•Knowledge of instrumenting, operating, and observing distributed microservices in a production cloud environment.
