Own the Everand Core backend platform that powers web and mobile reading and listening experiences. Set technical direction through design docs and architecture reviews, drive backend reliability and platform health (CI/CD, databases, queues, observability), and modernize legacy systems. Lead through mentorship and PR review, partner with Product, Design, Analytics, Web/Mobile, and ML teams on experimentation and a single source of truth, and translate user needs into scalable, resilient systems.

Key Responsibilities

•Set technical direction for the Everand backend by writing/syncing design documents, driving architecture reviews, and translating product intent into backend design.
•Own backend reliability and platform health across staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
•Raise the bar for the team through PR review, mentorship, pairing, and high standards for design, testing, and operations.
•Serve as the Everand backend voice in cross-team planning and drive cross-functional execution.
•Modernize legacy systems, eliminate technical debt, and foster scalable, resilient, observable systems that enable teams to deliver with confidence.

Key Requirements

•Significant experience in backend engineering with a track record building and scaling distributed systems.
•Write clean, maintainable, and secure code in at least one modern backend language such as Ruby (preferred), Scala, Go, or Python.
•Demonstrate reliability and observability expertise by defining SLOs, implementing metrics and alerts, and debugging distributed systems.
•Provide technical leadership through architectural direction, mentoring engineers, and driving large-scale migrations or modernization.
•Thrive in cross-functional collaboration with senior PM, design, and ML partners while focusing on systems that land well.
