Job Summary

Support the WHO Health Emergencies Programme at country level by coordinating with regional and headquarters technical focal points and providing technical assistance to national authorities. Lead emergency risk management, International Health Regulations (IHR) support, and infectious hazards planning, including gap analyses, national strategy and multi-hazard preparedness plan development. Build and strengthen emergency health care systems, assess risks and capacities, capture and disseminate knowledge, and represent WHO in relevant inter-agency and external forums.

Key Responsibilities

•Coordinate with technical focal points and provide technical assistance to national authorities on the WHO Health Emergencies programme at country level.
•Support emergency risk management, IHR-related country preparedness, and risk and situation assessments, including infectious hazards management.
•Collaborate with ministries and stakeholders to conduct gap analyses and develop or revise national strategies and a multi-hazard health emergency preparedness and response plan.
•Prepare national risk profiles, assess and map health risks and vulnerable populations, and identify resource needs and funding gaps for preparedness and response.
•Support capacity assessment and training implementation, strengthen emergency health care systems, monitor and evaluate interventions, and represent WHO in inter-agency meetings and external forums.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as epidemiology, public health, or another medical field.
•Minimum five years of relevant work experience in public health planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of epidemic and emergency preparedness and response activities.
•Experience strengthening country capacities and response to emergencies and disasters, including infectious disease outbreaks.
•Experience working in partnerships for health policy and strategic/operational interventions in emergency preparedness, response, or recovery, particularly in a developing country setting.
•Training in applied epidemiology is desirable.
