Key Responsibilities

  • •Own system design for the data platform end to end, from ingestion through the serving layer.
  • •Define service boundaries and data contracts between producers and consumers, including schema ownership and compatibility rules.
  • •Architect the lakehouse and analytical serving layer for multiple workload classes with isolation so one workload class never degrades another.
  • •Engineer data quality and observability as engineered system properties, including validation/quarantine paths and lineage generated by the pipeline.
  • •Drive architecture direction through TDRs/design docs/standards, review designs across teams, and mentor senior and staff engineers on data system design.

Key Requirements

  • •10+ years architecting large-scale software or data platforms, including significant time designing data platforms.
  • •Deep expertise in stream and batch processing at scale with Kafka, Flink, and Spark (or close equivalents), including knowing which workload belongs on which path.
  • •Strong Python and PySpark, solid Java for Flink stream processing, and enough Scala to reason about an existing Spark codebase.
  • •Production lakehouse storage expertise (e.g., Parquet and Iceberg), including partitioning, compaction, and schema evolution.
  • •Experience architecting analytical serving layers (e.g., ClickHouse, Druid, Pinot, BigQuery, Snowflake) and strong distributed-systems fundamentals (semantics, ordering, backpressure, failure modes).
