Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the development of an enterprise AI Safety and Evaluation capability aligned to Group AI strategy and Responsible AI objectives.
  • •Build and lead the AI Safety and Evaluation Centre of Excellence, including scalable testing capabilities, reusable assets, and best practices.
  • •Test and challenge guardrails and evaluation methodologies for governance and approval decisions, including go/no-go recommendations.
  • •Conduct end-to-end control effectiveness testing across the AI lifecycle (human-in-the-loop, monitoring, escalation, fallback/kill-switch).
  • •Provide AI safety subject-matter expertise and collaborate across CAIO, Risk, Cyber, and AI leadership; represent HSBC in external forums and working groups.

Key Requirements

  • •Strong knowledge of AI/ML systems including Generative AI/LLMs and deployment patterns (APIs, pipelines) with MLOps/LLMOps.
  • •Experience embedding safety controls and guardrails into model development and deployment lifecycles.
  • •Hands-on model evaluation and AI safety testing experience, including red teaming and scenario-based evaluation.
  • •Understanding of AI-related cyber risks (e.g., prompt injection, data leakage, adversarial attacks) and threat-modelling concepts.
  • •Familiarity with Model Risk Management (MRM) and operational risk frameworks in regulated environments, including NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and MAESTRO.
