Job Summary

Ensure MBZUAI’s operations comply with applicable laws and regulations while protecting the university’s interests. Draft, review, and implement contracts and departmental policies, identify and mitigate legal risks, and support compliance with internal and external requirements. Provide strategic legal advice to cross-functional stakeholders, manage relationships with external legal providers, and support legal proceedings. Stay current on evolving laws and contribute to legal and compliance strategy aligned to institutional goals.

Key Responsibilities

•Conduct legal research and analyze regulations, precedents, contracts, and agreements to identify risks and provide recommendations.
•Oversee drafting and review of contracts, agreements, and legal documents to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
•Monitor compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies, and assist in developing measures to mitigate legal risks.
•Contribute to the development and implementation of the university’s legal and compliance strategy and provide preventative guidance on risks.
•Engage with internal and external stakeholders (including government/regulatory bodies and external legal service providers) and support legal proceedings as needed.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) with progressively increasing responsibilities.
•Proven experience conducting legal research and analyzing complex contracts and legal documents to provide recommendations.
•Extensive track record drafting and reviewing contracts, agreements, and legal documents, including creating legal templates.
•Knowledge of compliance and risk management practices in higher education or a comparable industry.
•Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
