Key Responsibilities

  • •Design, implement, and operate data localization infrastructure enforcing where customer data is stored, processed, and decrypted.
  • •Build distributed systems with provable geographic boundaries that hold under failure at Cloudflare customer scale and reliability requirements.
  • •Work across the stack to deliver end-to-end features from edge policy enforcement and cryptographic key routing to APIs and dashboards.
  • •Own the full lifecycle of systems: design, rollout, and production operation.
  • •Reason about and handle compliance correctness constraints and failure modes with real customer impact.

Key Requirements

  • •3+ years designing, building, and operating production distributed systems at scale.
  • •Strong proficiency in Go, Rust, or C/C++ and willingness to work in other backend/system languages as needed.
  • •Solid distributed systems fundamentals (consensus, replication/sharding, failure modes, idempotency, retries, timeouts, backpressure, circuit breakers, rate limiting, health checking, leader election, graceful degradation).
  • •Practical experience with API design (REST or gRPC), relational databases, and asynchronous messaging or event streaming with clear transactional/consistency boundaries.
  • •Track record of production ownership including on-call, incident response, post-mortems, and reliability/performance improvements.
