Lead Canva’s Production Engineering practice to define how reliability-focused engagements are scoped and executed with product and infrastructure teams. Key Responsibilities

•Define the engagement model between Production Engineering and product/infrastructure teams, including how engagements are scoped and handed off
•Lead the most technically complex engagements (e.g., sharding, multi-region architecture, JVM performance at scale)
•Set the technical bar for Canva’s Production Engineering and define the archetype future hires should meet
•Pair staff and mid-level engineers across engagements and grow production engineering capability across the organization
•Connect production engineering efforts to the product roadmap and ensure upstream production readiness

Key Requirements

•Extensive production experience with large-scale distributed systems and ownership of reliability improvements
•Deep systems expertise with JVM performance and hands-on work in Java, Go, Rust, or C++
•Experience with multi-region/sharding architectures, distributed data stores, and failure modes
•Strong proficiency in observability, monitoring, tracing, and incident response to reduce severity and improve MTTR
•Ability to define engagement models, pair engineers, and influence cross-team strategy to improve production readiness
