Key Responsibilities

  • •Select pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
  • •Select equipment and plan layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of metal properties, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
  • •Lay out, position, align, fit, and tack weld components together in various body positions.
  • •Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components (e.g., piping systems, plate, pipe/tube, structural shapes) using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
  • •Obtain and set welding parameters (amperage, voltage, slope, pulse) and prepare electrodes/consumables per procedure or supervisor.

Key Requirements

  • •May use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
  • •Can certify on multi-process pipe and be proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
  • •Can produce welds that meet NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements.
  • •Able to lay out, align, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components according to blueprints and metallurgy.
