Key Responsibilities

  • •Transcribe dictated material and medical reports (e.g., discharge summaries, operative reports, specialty reports, consultation and progress notes) into understandable text for patient care documentation.
  • •Clarify unclear or incomplete dictation by verifying information in the electronic medical record and seeking assistance from appropriate clinical/ancillary teams when needed.
  • •Edit and revise inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies without altering the meaning or the originator’s style.
  • •Operate and troubleshoot transcription/word processing and dictation equipment as specified, ensuring report accuracy and correct formatting.
  • •Maintain deficiency tracking, productivity reports, quality monitoring, work logs/edit sheets, and ensure duplicate records are eliminated in the dictation system.

Key Requirements

  • •2–4 years of medical transcription experience in an acute care hospital setting (or comparable setting).
  • •Strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and disease processes.
  • •Ability to apply transcription guidelines and accurately translate medical slang and abbreviations into expanded forms.
  • •Experience using an electronic medical record to confirm lab/radiology results, diagnoses, and medication/dosages.
  • •Ability to maintain accuracy standards for headers/footers, patient identifiers (name and medical record number), spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
