Job Summary

Maintain, upgrade, and optimize control and automation systems for Sonoco’s paper mill. Partner with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to improve safety, reliability, and productivity. Provide day-to-day controls support, lead automation/control projects, troubleshoot using loop sheets and electrical diagrams, and tune control loop performance. Create documentation for bidding and installation, support commissioning, and train teams on new and existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

•Act as project lead for automation and control projects, including upgrades and installations.
•Troubleshoot control systems using loop sheets and electrical elementary diagrams, including evaluating control loop performance with X,Y plots.
•Collaborate with engineers, operations, maintenance personnel, and contractors to meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
•Create documentation packages for bidding, installation, start-up, maintenance, and spares for control system projects.
•Provide commissioning/start-up support and train the maintenance team on new and existing automation and control systems.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor of Science in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or an associate degree in electrical engineering with relevant field experience.
•Experience with PLC programming (ladder logic, function diagrams, and structured text), including Rockwell/Allen Bradley and/or Siemens.
•Experience with AC and DC drives, including Yaskawa and/or Siemens/Rockwell.
•Experience with control system network interfaces and communications protocols, plus HMI configuration/programming.
•Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and continuous process controls, including ABB/Foxboro; Autocad skills for control diagrams are preferred.
