Job Summary

Own Canals’ commercial contracts function end-to-end as the company’s first AGC, drafting, negotiating, and closing enterprise SaaS/AI agreements and related addenda. Triage redlines, set contract review SLAs, and manage privacy compliance and data governance. Serve as an embedded legal partner across Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Finance, identifying legal risk early and building legal ops tooling and outside counsel relationships to scale efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

•Draft, negotiate, and close enterprise SaaS/AI agreements, including addenda and schedules such as DPAs.
•Build and maintain contract templates and a negotiation playbook to help Sales move deals faster.
•Triage inbound redlines efficiently and establish contract review SLAs.
•Own day-to-day privacy compliance and the data governance strategy.
•Serve as embedded legal partner for Sales & Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Finance; identify legal risks early and advise on mitigation.

Key Requirements

•JD from an accredited law school and an active state bar membership in good standing.
•4-8 years of experience, including at least 2-3 years at an Am Law 100 firm in transactional/commercial practice.
•Deep expertise in commercial contract drafting and negotiation for complex enterprise deals.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make judgment calls without hand-holding.
•Clear, direct communicator who writes and speaks in plain language.
